Frequently Asked Questions
You will need a 3D model.
This can be produced in an appropriate CAD software.
Although we cannot recomend any specific software, there are some more adequate for producing 3D printable models.
Tinkercad, Solidworks and Fusion360 are some examples of softwares that produce solid, watertight, 3D models.
Blender, Sketchup, Rhino can be tricky, but if you are experienced they can also get the job done.
STEP is preferable. STL also works but make sure it has been exported with enough quality and with the desired scale.
For a file to be considered printable, it:
- should represent one (1) solid watertight part. (one object per file)
- cannot have zero thickness walls
- should be provided with the desired dimensions of the physical object. (no scales)
- as a rule of thumb no design feature should be smaller than 1mm, (for filament and powder printing), or 0.3mm, (for resin printing)
Estimates will be calculated based on the 3D model provided and the techinal requisites indicated.
If you already know the 3D printing technology you are looking for, let us know. (Filament, resin, power, etc)
Parts requirements are important as it will help us decide which 3D printing technology to use and what material has to be used. And this will greatly affect the cost.
Some examples:
- Parts must withstand 85ºC, ultraviolet and heavy compression loads
- Generic household part
- High-detail resin print
When a 3D model is non-existent, we can do a 3D Scan and eventually the Reverse Engineering to get to a printable part.
We always need an original physical part with us to do this processes; we cannot do it based on photographs or images.
If you need to replicate a part, send us some clear images that:
- allow us to get a sense of its dimensions. (a ruller or measuring tape helps sometimes)
- allow us see the part from different angles
- show the level of detail or more complex regions of the part
Based on this we'll be able to give you an estimate both for the job.
Estimates for the 3D printing of the object will be merelly indicative as it is very hard to do without a 3D model to simulate.
